Indre and Argenton-sur-Creuse

With its stunning scenery and fine châteaux. Indre (Department 36) is the unspoilt heart of France.

We are 30 kilometres away from the capital of the region Chateauroux and 8 kilometres from the historical medieval town Argenton-sur-Creuse with its ancient houses almost sliding into the river Creuse

Argenton-sur-Creuse has a lovely town square where you can sit and drink coffee, many shops, a covered market on Saturdays, a new swimming pool, canoe and bike hire and a museum based on the archaeological dig at Argentomagus.

Brenne National Park and the Berry Region

We are situated 20 minutes from The Brenne National Park, in the beautiful Berry Region – Department of Indre (36), which opens up a diverse area to discover. Bird watching, canoeing, cycling, golf, horse-riding, rambling or water sports at the Lake in Eguzon. It is also a haven for fishermen, with lakes in abundance.

We are approximately 3 hours drive from the Mountain Region of the Massif Central (1886m)

Other Attractions

Situated on the edge of three counties you can profit from a diverse range of activities. Poitiers is about an hour and a half away, famous for the fantastic cinematographical centre of Futuroscope. An hour further south is Limoges with its beautiful cathedral and, of course, plenty of opportunities to purchase gifts of the outstanding Limoges porcelain. It is also an area of great historic interest.

The important chateau at Chateauguillaume is an hours drive and further a field the Chateau of Sarzay, which is in the process of being restored to its full glory. In a wonderful setting with four towers it is well worth a visit. Or visit the Valley of Frescoes between St. Savin and Saulge.

Disneyland Paris & Parc Asterix are about 3 hours drive away or are accessible by train from Argenton-sur-Creuse.

La Brenne Natural Park with its thousand lakes is a vast conservation area dotted with lakes and criss-crossed with bridle paths. There are organised hikes or you can simply set out on your own with a map.

At the Maison de la Brenne, there is an interpretive centre where visitors can learn about the region, its ancient traditions of fish farming and nature conservation.

A day out to visit the vast lake ( Lac Chambon )at Eguzon is a must. The lake stretches for twenty-five kilometres and is the perfect place where you can learn to water-ski, sail and windsurf. There are several beaches for swimming and restaurants with a wonderful choice of menus.

La Chatre is famous for being the home town of George Sands , Chopin's mistress, and Gargilesse, the village she spent time.

 

For a day out shopping  Chateauroux  at 30 kilometres away has all the major shops. 

You can reach the international airports of Poitiers and Limoges in an hour or so and the Paris – Toulouse , A20 motorway is just 10 minutes away.
